Financial Market, The experience of an internship at Google is portrayed with a generous dose of irony and good humor in the film “The Interns”, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. But what is the real-life experience like?

In a statement to EXAME.com, 7 Brazilians who went through the 2015 edition of the company’s internship program tell us a little about the “treats” and surprises they found at Google’s São Paulo office. See below:

Who does an internship at Google?

Fernando Balbino, 23 years old

Course: Economics at USP (University of São Paulo).

What you do at Google: Service and consulting on Google products for small and medium businesses.

What was your biggest surprise when you joined the team?  “The big surprise was the people. I learned and learn a lot from the team, everyone is super open and always willing to offer help, especially for us, the interns”, says Fernando.

Which Google perk or “treat” do you like best? “Being able to play video games after work is very good because then we can talk and slow down. I also play a lot of table tennis and pool, which are available in the common areas”.

What would you say to those who dream of working at the company? “At Google, I was able to develop myself beyond what I was hired to perform, either through conversations with other employees or by being part of different company committees, such as the black, gay, women, etc. It really is a growth environment.”

Jessica Miwa, 21 years old

Course: Journalism at the Cásper Líbero Foundation.

What you do at Google: Service and consulting on Google products for small and medium businesses.

What was your biggest surprise when you joined the team?  “The office is amazing, with several rooms and snacks that delight anyone. It has a gym, games room, restroom, and two small kitchens per floor. It’s out of this world.”

Which Google perk or “treat” do you like best? “It’s hard to choose! The weekly get-togethers at the restaurant are great to relax a little and meet people from other areas”.

What would you say to those who dream of working at the company? “It is very nice to be able to work in a company with such diverse and qualified people. The exchange is very rich”.

Pedro Barino, 24 years old

Course: Production Engineering at UFES (Federal University of Espírito Santo).

What You Do at Google:  Account Strategy for Small and Medium Businesses.

What was your biggest surprise when you joined the team? “I was very surprised by the number of opportunities I had in such a short time. Interns receive very special attention. If you deliver quality results, more development opportunities are offered”.

Which Google perk or “treat” do you like best? “Being able to play ping pong in the office is my favorite treat. I do this practically every day.”

What would you say to those who dream of working at the company? “Google is a fantastic company and it has changed my life. It is very worthwhile to participate in the selection process regardless of where you live. The fact that the selection process is online helps a lot in this regard. I, for example, lived in Vitória, Espírito Santo, and I did all the interviews in my room”.

Cheyenne Campos, 22 years old

Course: Administration at Insper (Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa).

What you do at Google: Account Strategy.

What was your biggest surprise when you joined the team?  “I was very surprised at how easily Googlers interact with other Googlers, regardless of job title, field or country. It is something that greatly optimizes the processes”.

Which Google perk or “treat” do you like best? “The flexibility of being able to work from any Google office, as long as you respect Brazil’s time zone.”

What would you say to those who dream of working at the company? “The ‘play hard, work hard’ style is really taken seriously here, both in relationships with other colleagues and with the customers we serve. We work a lot, but we also have a lot of moments of relaxation”.

Jessica Santos, 23 years old

Course: Advertising and publicity in Mackenzie.

What You Do at Google: Account Strategy for Small and Medium Businesses.

What was your biggest surprise when you joined the team? “The people at Google are very open and willing to teach and exchange experiences, not just the people who work directly with you.”

Which Google perk or “treat” do you like best? “Having different groups and different classes, such as dance, yoga, and guitar classes. This allows us to practice our hobbies more and also meet people with similar interests.”

Raffaella Bignardi, 24 years old

Course: Administration at FGV (Fundação Getúlio Vargas).

What you do at Google:  Sales to small and medium businesses.

What was your biggest surprise when you joined the team? “I was surprised by the receptivity of the people, and also by the size of the company”.

Which Google perk or “treat” do you like best? “The incredible library that is at our disposal”.

What would you say to those who dream of working at the company? “The work environment is incredibly dynamic, and in a very positive way.”

Hector Melo, 25 years old

Course: Business Administration at USP (University of São Paulo).

What you do at Google: Strategic support for small and medium businesses.

What was your biggest surprise when you joined the team? “What surprised me the most was the organizational climate totally focused on our creativity and well-being. It is also a surprise to see in practice that it is possible to have fun during the development of work activities”.

Which Google perk or “treat” do you like best? “What impacted my routine the most were the Tai Chi Chuan classes offered after working hours. These exercises helped me to reconcile the last semester of graduation in a much more peaceful and balanced way”.

What would you say to those who dream of working at the company? “I would highlight the support and complicity of managers and co-workers. An example of this is the accessibility and ease of career meetings, which are sometimes online and regardless of where the offices are”.
